RESIDENTS attended a celebratory conference themed on Belonging to Blackburn.

Around 600 people who have taken part in a range of courses and training over the past year joined Blackburn with Darwen Council's annual Celebration of Achievement at King George's Hall earlier this week.

Organised by the Education Department, Blackburn College and St Mary's College, the event involved hundreds of people presented with certificates for everything from learning new computer skills to taking part in taster sessions.

"The conference will took place over an afternoon and evening session and we asked people to discuss how learning can help residents feel they belong to the borough," said lifelong learning manager Chris Sivers.

"The ideas they came up with will be used to tailor learning opportunities to encourage more and more people to develop new skills, take up new interests and see where it can lead them."
