A BUS firm has stepped in to make sure Huncoat residents are not left stranded when Accrington-based Pilkington's closes down.

Lancashire United has revealed that they are to take over service number 3 to the Huncoat area from Saturday, July 24.

Pilkington's were stripped of their licence after a public inquiry in June, and will be removing their buses from the roads by July 23.

Duncan Allan, Lancashire United commercial director, said: "The residents of Huncoat need not fear that they are about to lose their service as Lancashire United's blue and cream buses, which already serve other parts of Hyndburn, will start running to and from Huncoat again from Saturday, July 24.

"The only difference is that LU buses will depart from Stand L on Bridge Street in Accrington Town Centre rather than from Infant Street which the current operator uses."

The new service 3 will complement the Mainline and X63 services operated by Burnley & Pendle Travel and will run every 15 minutes between 7.10am and 6.05pm, on Mondays to Fridays, and 8.25am to 6.05pm on Saturdays.
