IT may not feel like summer but police are warning residents in Pendle against leaving their doors and windows open this summer.

Pennine Division is running a new campaign called Operation Fahrenheit aimed at preventing burglary during the summer months.

To get the message across the campaign will involve a poster campaign and a roadshow will visit Nelson next week to hammer the message home about the perils of leaving doors and windows insecure.

PC Sally Atkinson said if people are not careful they could inadvertently welcome a thief into their home.

She said: "It takes just a matter of seconds for a thief to sneak through an insecure door or window so if you are going out of the house, even if it's just to

mow the lawn or do a spot of sunbathing then make sure your doors and windows are closed and secure."

The roadshow will be at Morrisons, Nelson between 11.30am and 3.30pm on Monday.
