POLICE officers from across Lancashire were honoured for their bravery at an awards ceremony last night.
The Pride of Lancashire Awards saw 15 officers from the area praised for their often life-saving and selfless acts.
Chief Constable, Steve Finnigan, said: "This annual bravery awards ceremony is a particularly important night that allows us to recognise the remarkable acts of bravery carried out by our own officers.
“It makes me feel immensely proud, as Chief Constable, that frontline officers and members of the public put themselves into situations in order to apprehend offenders or protect others.
"The Pride of Lancashire Awards is a chance for us to recognise and celebrate the outstanding bravery of people who have gone the extra mile and have shown great courage and dedication in a range of difficult and dangerous circumstances.
"With this event we are able to give them the recognition they truly deserve."
Chair of Lancashire Police Authority, Malcolm Doherty, said: "They are an example to others and I am delighted that their actions are being recognised in this way."
Those honoured included PC Stewart Duckworth, who rescued a man from the Leed and Liverpool Canal in Blackburn, and PCs Andrew Maltman and Mark Gannaway, who tackled a woman who was holding someone hostage in her home.
A team of officers led by Sgt Kevin Kavanagh and Sgt Michael Baines was also praised for its work responding to a stabbing in Darwen.
The event, sponsored by BAE Systems, was held at Barton Grange Hotel, Barton, near Preston.
