The two favourites to fight contest the first division, now find themselves heading the first division.

Blackburn Seniors “A” have set of at a cracking pace and still remain in the top place after giving Halsteads a crushing 19 – 1 thrashing in a very much one-sided affair, with the home side only dropping a single mixed doubles 18 – 21.

However, Westholme “A”, who have a game in hand on the leaders, have already shown that they are in contention to retain their championship position by securing a convincing win over Independent “A” in a match played at St Wilfrid’s.

The home side were never in contention.

Newly promoted Telecom “A”, who have perhaps played the two strongest side in the division, earned their first win of the season playing at the highest level by recording a 14 – 6 victory over Tag.

The home side were never in trouble right from the start and had opened up a considerable lead after the mixed doubles, and then went onto show who was the best sides in the level doubles, although they were made to play hard to take the upper hand.

In the Second Division, relegated St Philips is anxious to get back into the top flight, and playing a cold Westholme Sports Hall, they were always the favourites to take the match.

Peter Wright captained the visitors and urged them onto a well deserved 16 – 4 victory.

However, it was noted that Mark Whittaker from Westholme played “out of his skin”, and was unlucky not record a single victory in his four games.

This defeat of Westholme firmly roots them to the bottom of the table.

Roefield “A” roar to the second place after recording a 13-7 victory over Stanhill, although their visitors were forced to play with a lady short, but then also recorded a 14 – 6 victory over St Nicholas in a match played at the Hyndburn Sports Centre.

Blackburn Seniors “B”, trying to emulate their senior team also recorded their second victory,.

And again Stanhill were the side to suffer.

Independent “B” maintains their top lace in the third division, following their great win over second placed St Matthews.

The visitors could dropped a single men’s doubles and also found that they had thrown away two mixed doubles games, but they now open up a gap at the top of the table. As a result of this St Nicholas slide down the table as other results such as the narrow victory of Olympic over Blackburn Seniors “C”.

They also had to contend with Telecom “B” outplaying Clitheroe “C” in their match played at Oakhill College.
