CHORLEY'S MP has helped foil a ram-raid on a clothing shop in central London.

Lindsay Hoyle was in Covent Garden at 11.30pm on Monday after a reception for soldiers from the Gibraltar Regiment when he heard motorbikes revving loudly.

Mr Hoyle, said that he sensed something suspicious about the four men on two motor-bikes loitering outside the prestige North Face clothing shop.

He said: “They got off the bikes and started jumping feet first at the door until the security pins snapped and they were able to get inside.

“I yelled ‘what do you think your game is?’ and, with Gibraltar's UK ambassador Albert Poggio, who was with me, we crossed to confront them.

"They had taken expensive clothing but I managed to tackle one of them.

"He came off the motorbike and dropped about six coats.

“I fell over at this point so I’m nursing a bit of a sore knee.”

The hapless gang then fled.
