DARWEN Academy has received more than £18,000 to run a two-year foreign exchange programme.

The foreign languages department has arranged for 30 pupils to visit schools in France, Finland and Spain over the next 12 months.

Teachers hope cultural links will be developed, with emphasis on performing arts, music and languages.

Meanwhile, next Wednesday, 24 French, seven Finnish and eight Spanish pupils arrive at Redeath Road for a welcome concert, followed by a tour of the North West.

The 22,000 Euro grant has come from the European Comenius Fund which aims to help young people develop a better understanding of European cultures, languages and values.
