BLACKBURN College’s bursary scheme to help cover the cost of university fees is proving successful.

The college said the scheme, worth up to £1,000 per student, had been ‘well received by students’.

Principal Ian Clinton said: “We understand that the cost of education has increased beyond belief and what we don’t want is students not going to university because they think they can’t afford to.

“What we can be sure of is that studying at Blackburn College will always offer excellent value for money and, where we can, we have put grants and bursary schemes in place to give some students extra financial help.”

Foundation Degree student, Yasira Rehmani, 19 from Blackburn, said: “My friends and I have been worrying about the cost of going to uni for a while, so when we looked at Blackburn College I found out about the bursary through my tutor and applied immediately.”

To be eligible for a bursary, students must have just started the university, be in receipt of a maintenance grant and studying a full-time HE course with fees of £3,290.
