A DRUG dealer who led police on a car chase and then thumped an officer as he tried to arrest him, has been jailed for 21 months.
Burnley Crown Court was told how heavy cannabis user, Nasir Hussain, 23, had been involved in commercial supply of the drug for two to three months to fund his own habit.
Hussain, who had clocked up 60 mph in 30 mph and 20mph residential streets in Nelson, in the early hours pursuit, had ignored speed bumps, gone across roundabouts without giving way and ended up running from his vehicle.
He was found hiding behind a four wheel drive car and when police approached him and an officer took hold of him, he punched him in the face.
A struggle followed and the defendant was struck to the arm and leg with a baton.
Hussain, of Barkerhouse Road, Nelson, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis and possessing the drug.
He was convicted after a trial of dangerous driving and common assault.
He was banned for 18 months and must take an extended retest.
Hussain will face a proceeds of crime hearing next February. Kevin Donnelly, prosecuting, said on February 15, police flagged the defendant down, at first he stopped and then he accelerated away.
A short pursuit followed on Leeds Road and Regent Street, Nelson, after which the defendant was arrested.
