A MOTHER today told of experiencing every parent's worst nightmare' when she ran out into the street to find her daughter had been knocked down by a car.

Lynsay Lee, of Within Grove, Huncoat, was waiting for her three-year-old daughter, Jaymie Lee-Slater, to be brought home by her grandad at 6pm last Friday when the accident happened.

Police said Jaymie had slipped out from behind a parked van when she was struck by a car, which was passing at a slow speed.

Lynsay said: "I was shocked when I got the phone call to tell me what happened. I ran out and she was laid in the road covered in blood.

"She was awake, but she was shivering with shock."

Jaymie was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment. Her condition is now said to be improving.

Lynsay added: "She has been in hospital since then because they think she might have injured her kidneys.

"She isn't eating much at the moment. I just wish I could take her home."

Police have spoken to the driver of the car, but will not be pursuing a criminal prosecution.
