MOTORISTS can exit The Mall car park, Blackburn, into King Street after work on the ramp was completed.

The new exit into King Street provides an alternative route for cars to the orbital route.

King Street has been reversed so traffic now flows from the town centre towards Freckleton Street.

The work has been carried out to ease congestion, promote greener transport and allow buses access to the new £18 million Barbara Castle Way Health Centre in Simmons Street, and the new Blackburn College development.

Coun Dave Harling, executive member for regeneration, welcomed the move.

He said: "This is great news and all part of our plan to make traffic flow better round the town centre.

“We hope the improved ramp will allow quicker access from The Mall.

“Pedestrian movement has already seen a dramatic improvement and with more traffic going down King Street we hope this will bring extra customers to the businesses down there."
