A ROVERS-mad gran celebrating her 80th birthday today is hoping for a win this weekend as a present from Steve Kean’s men.

Darwen resident Erna Binns has been a regular on the Ewood Park terraces for 55 years.

Erna, who lives in Clarence Street, got her first season ticket in the Nuttall Street stand back in 1960.

And, having followed the team through thick and thin ever since, she now gets the bus from Darwen Conservative Club every game to take her seat in the lower tier of the Jack Walker stand.

I used to take my grandson in the 70s,” she said. “And back then it was £47 for both of our season tickets!”

Erna has many memories of going to watch her beloved Rovers, particularly a match when she almost ended up on the pitch.

“We were once in the Nuttall Street stand and somehow we ended up in the directors’ box.

“A steward told us to move at half-time, so we went past the tunnel and the players all came out.

"It was funny.”

And she has to fight a constant battle with her family, who all support Manchester United.

She said: “My family are all United fans and keep winding me up, saying we’re going to go down.”

A Blackburn Rovers spokesman said: “We have a number of long-serving supporters, but to hold a season ticket for more than half a century takes a bit of beating.

“We would like to thank Erna for her loyalty to the club and wish her a very happy 80th birthday.”
