CAMPAIGNERS from the Save Pendle Community Hospital group have urged people to carry on fighting the possible closure of the hospital.

It was suggested earlier in the week that the future of the hospital was secure.

However, after a meeting with senior bosses from NHS East Lancashire, campaigners said that was not the case.

Now campaigners say it is vital they continue to fight for its future.

Azhar Ali, campaigner and former chair of Burnley NHS Trust, said: “The hospital's viablilty as a sustainable unit is placed in jeopardy and continues to be at serious risk.

“The NHS believe it is too early to judge what other in-patient services could be placed in PCH to make it viable and thus have not ruled out any options.”

Coun Eileen Ansar said: “The Government's NHS reforms now mean that GP's are now in charge of deciding which services are commissioned, and we will be seeking urgent meetings with their representatives.”
