EAST Lancashire unemployment rates have risen, new figures released this morning reveal.
There are now 13,787 people out of work in the area.
There were 662 more people claiming job seekers’ allowance in the region in January compared with December.
The biggest rise was seen in Blackburn with Darwen, where the number of unemployed people jumped by 199 to 4,441.
Burnley saw a jump to 2,789, with 113 more people claiming job seekers’ benefits in January 2012 than the previous month.
In Pendle, the figure is 2,261, up 121, in Rossendale it is 1,708, up 81, and in Hyndburn the number of people claiming job seekers’ allowance is 2,026, up 124.
The lowest rise was seen in the Ribble Valley with only 24 more people claiming unemployment benefits in January 2012 up from 538 in December 2011.
The figures for all of the boroughs of East Lancashire are also up significantly on January 2011, with 2,120 more unemployed people.
Nationally, unemployment rose by 6,300 to 1.54 million.
