BLACKBURN-raised fashion designer Wayne Hemingway has been awarded an honorary degree.

Wayne, co-founder of the Red or Dead brand, was granted the honorary doctor of arts from Leeds Metropolitan University in recognition of his contribution to the arts.

At the ceremony, he told arts, environment and technology graduates: “The best thing you can do is to throw yourself into life now.

“Just try things and try to be happy.

“Do not be afraid of failure, just go on and have a great time.”

Others receiving honorary degrees from the university include Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis – Neville Longbottom in the films, England rugby union head coach Stuart Lancaster and Olympic torch designer Edwards Barber.
