I read, with interest and some confusion the article about Garry Flitcroft’s gravestone and bench (‘Former Blackburn Rovers star ordered to remove churchyard memorial to father,’ LT November 9).
I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but wasn’t Jesus one of the most tolerant beings ever?
He welcomed rogues, thieves and other undesirables into his circle, I’m sure he would have had no problem whatsoever with sentimentality?
Still, I’m sure the church is grateful for the graveyard police who, very intolerantly, and therefore, surely un-Christian, feel able to judge what someone feels appropriate for their father’s memorial?
Can’t see that attitude filling churches on Sundays.
