Police warned Preston residents to be vigilant following burglaries in the city.

The warning comes after two burglaries in two days as a result of people leaving windows or doors open.

Burglars struck at a house in Foregate, in Fulwood, overnight on Wednesday, September 3.

They stole the family car, a silver VW Polo registration number PK55NUF, cash and two mobile phones, a black Nokia 270 and a blue Nokia 2310.

In another burglary on the same night, thieves stole cash and a silver and black Nokia N73 mobile phone from a first floor flat in Bairstow Street, Preston.

Paul Wilson said: “It really is an open invitation to thieves, they are the type of individuals who will pick out easy targets.

“They will try people’s front doors during day-time hours and if they see a open window and there is nobody home they will take advantage.

“Criminals have no scruples - if you present them with any easy opportunity they will take advantage, even if it is during the middle of the day.

“When you are in your house ensure that you front door is locked and use common sense when leaving doors or windows open. Use door chains and window locks if they are fitted.”

Anyone with information should call Preston Police on 01772 203203 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
