Police believe a 18-year-old man who was shot on Monday afternoon could have known the gunman.

Delroy Webb, was shot in the leg in an area of woodland near the Ribble Reclamation yard, off Ducie Place, Fishwick, on Monday, July 23, at 2.11pm.

Police are still hunting for the gunman, however they believe it could be one of five people who Mr Webb was associating with at the time of the shooting.

Mr Webb, of the Callon area of Preston, is recovering in the Royal Preston Hospital.

DCI Tim Leeson, of Lancashire Police major incident team, said that the police were currently conducting house-to-house inquiries.

He said: "We are still inquiring about the circumstances of the shooting and we are looking at every possibility as well as interviewing a number of witnesses.

"We will have to keep an open mind but we will be speaking to the victim and individuals with him at the time of the shooting.

"However, it does seem that the incident was contained within a group of five people.

"There is no indication that it was drug or gang related."

An incident room has been set up at Preston police station to deal with the incident and police patrols have also been stepped up in the area.

The shooting comes after several shots were fired at three men in a car in Tenby Road, Avenham, in June.

In May, a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest during a disturbance in Robin Street, Ribbleton.
