Thousands of people took to the streets of Preston on Sunday for the city's Caribbean Carnival.

The city centre became awash with colour and music as a procession of floats - each with a different theme - made their way from Avenham Park around the streets of the city and back to the park.

A whole host of entertainment in the form of reggae bands, salsa dancers, steel bands and MCs were laid on in Avenham Park and revellers were also given the chance to try some traditional Caribbean cuisine at various stalls.

The carnival, which has been running Preston for more than 30 years, was officially opened by the city's new mayor, Coun John Swindells.

Dian Flannagan, chairman of Preston City Caribbean Carnival Committee, said: "The carnival is the culmination of months of hard work and I'd like to thank the hundreds of volunteers who've worked tirelessly to make it the success it is today."
