The BNP have pledged to make Preston a political target after putting up a candidate in the forthcoming local elections.

Anthony Bamber, 50, will be the first BNP candidate to stand for election in the city.

Mr Bamber, a long standing member of the party, is standing in the Tulketh Ward seat in the May 4 elections.

BNP area organiser, Roy Goodwin, said: "This will be the first time we have stood in Preston at a local level.

"I have had many messages from people in Preston inquiring about whether we are putting anyone up for election. Over the next few years we expanding across the North West and in the next Preston elections we hope to be putting up five or six candidates."

Mr Bamber is divorced with one grown-up son.
