A court has heard how a man who hit his partner to the face caused her to fall into a bath.

Victim Samantha Wylde was placed in a plaster cast from shoulder to wrist.

Robert Leniewski, 27, of Seven Acres, Bamber Bridge, was given 24 weeks prison, suspended for two years.

The sentence involves 12 months supervision and a requirement to go on a domestic violence programme.

He had pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm assault which was carried out in January this year.

Preston Crown Court heard that the couple had been drinking in the Acregate Labour Club, Preston, when they had a row which continued at home.

Leniewski hit her to the head, a blow which knocked Miss Wylde into the bath and injured her arm.

The court was told that she did not want to resume their relationship.

Defence counsel Mr Jon Close said both parties were in a highly emotional state at the time. The defendant expressed regret for his conduct.

In passing sentence, the judge told him the courts would do whatever they could to protect vulnerable women.
