Wife of Longton motorcyclist killed in crash pays tribute

The wife of a Longton motorcyclist killed on Saturday has spoken about her "special and gentle" husband.

Ian Bottomley, 52, died after the collision which happened on the A683 Hornby to Melling road at 11am.

An executive with British Aerospace in Samlesbury his wife Ann said he was a "wonderful husband, father and grandfather and one in a million."

She said: "We had been together for 28 years, since we were 16, and he was a very special person.

He was a loving, caring and clever man with a cheeky sense of fun.

"He loved going out on his bike. He had been riding since he was 17 and we often went out on it together."

The couple both originate from the Halifax area but have lived in Longton for the past 26 years.

Ian is survived by his wife, twin daughters Sally and Jenny, and 17-month-old grand daughter Emma Louise.

Police have made an appeal for witnesses after the accident.
