A new crown green bowling ground has been built near Leyland and locals can try it out for free this weekend.

The new bowling ground, created by Clayton-le-Woods Parish Council, is located at the Ley Inn, Back Lane, Clayton-le-Woods.

It is open to people from across Preston, Chorley and South Ribble with season membership, from April to October, from £25.

There is also a pay-per-play option for a few pounds with food and non-alcoholic drinks available.

The new bowling green is part of an ongoing Play and Leisure policy, provided by the parish council, which includes a play area at Clayton Brook and a Skate Park, near the Asda supermarket, Clayton Green, both of which are open now.

Also, a new all weather multi-use games area includes a ball court for five-a-side football, basketball, rugby and skating.

The next stage under the Play for Leisure scheme is a new play area on Cunnery Park, off Cunnery Meadow in the Lancaster Lane area of the parish, near Leyland.

Construction will begin in the next couple of weeks with a new playground for the younger members of the community on the same Cunnery Park site.

This Sunday people can try out the new bowling green for free as part of a community open day.

All equipment is provided if required and all ages are welcome.

Further details are available from the Somerfield store, Pendle Road, off Lancaster Lane, Asda Clayton Green and from the Ley Inn, Back lane, Clayton-le-Woods.
