A woman has been dragged to her death by her pet dog.
The dog walker was killed when her dog pulled her onto a road into the path of a car in Longton.
The woman was walking her small white dog along Liverpool Road in Longton near the Black Bull pub at about 10.05pm on Tuesday when her pet apparently pulled her onto the road.
She was struck by a Vauxhall Vectra saloon, driving in the direction of Hutton.
The woman suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The Vectra driver, Karlis Bredrihs, 23, of Walmer Bridge, was unhurt.
The dog ran off following the accident, but was later found and taken to a vet for treatment to a leg injury.
Anyone with information should call the police on 01695 566486.
