A woman killed when her dog dragged her onto a busy road has been named as 45-year-old Joy Leslie.

Miss Leslie, of Longton, was killed after she was struck by a Vauxhall Vectra car near to the Black Bull public house on Liverpool Road, Longton, at 10pm on Tuesday.

A family friend of Miss Leslie said: "Joy was well-known in the village for her gentle disposition.

"She enjoyed first aid and was a member of St John Ambulance.

"She also loved animals and her little dog Sasha was an important part of her life."

Miss Leslie's ten-year-old dog ran off after the accident but was later found and treated at a vet for a leg injury and is now recovering.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Det Sgt Dave Tonge, of Ormskirk Road Policing Unit, said: "At the time of this tragic incident there were very few people in the vicinity, and we are seeking witnesses to the collision."

Anyone with any information should contact Ormskirk Police on 01695 566486.

Joy will be sadly missed by all of us who worked with her in St John Ambulance in Penwortham.
Due to her lack of family we are unaware of funeral arrangements and there are several members of St John who would like to pay their respects. If you know details please let us know.
