A woman killed when her dog dragged her onto a busy road has been named as 45-year-old Joy Leslie.
Miss Leslie, of Longton, was killed after she was struck by a Vauxhall Vectra car near to the Black Bull public house on Liverpool Road, Longton, at 10pm on Tuesday.
A family friend of Miss Leslie said: "Joy was well-known in the village for her gentle disposition.
"She enjoyed first aid and was a member of St John Ambulance.
"She also loved animals and her little dog Sasha was an important part of her life."
Miss Leslie's ten-year-old dog ran off after the accident but was later found and treated at a vet for a leg injury and is now recovering.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
Det Sgt Dave Tonge, of Ormskirk Road Policing Unit, said: "At the time of this tragic incident there were very few people in the vicinity, and we are seeking witnesses to the collision."
