Generous parents and relatives of children from a Preston nursery raised £700 for a disability charity.

The money was collected at a fair organised by the Carr Manor nursery, Cann Bridge Street, Higher Walton.

Local businesses from the village donated a range of great prizes for the raffle such as wines and spirits, vouchers for hair, beauty and take-away meals, flower arrangements and chocolates.

Many of the children's parents and grandparents also baked cakes which were sold at the fair.

And stands such as guess the weight of the cake' and face painting, boosted the amount raised.

The event was so successful that the nursery raised just over £700 in three hours.

The money was donated to disability charity Scope's Beaumont College, in Lancaster, as one of the boy's attending the nursery has cerebral palsy.

The college's aim is to empower students to take responsibility for their own lives and to make things happen for themselves, either independently or by working with and directing others.

It caters for residential and day students, aged between 18 and 25, with a broad range of physical and learning impairments.

Leslie Robinson, manager of Carr Manor nursery, said: "The support we had from parents, friends and the local businesses was absolutely fantastic and helped turned the event into a real success.

"I know that the money we've raised is going to a great cause which helps improve the lives of disabled people."

Graeme Pyle, principal of Beaumont College, said: "We're very grateful for the fundraising efforts of Carr Manor nursery and would like to thank them for their generosity.

"The money raised will help Scope to continue to provide valuable services for disabled people and their families."
