Police are appealing for witnesses after a 23-year-old cyclist died after he was involved in a collision with a van in Garstang.

It happened at about 12.50pm this afternoon.

Early indications suggest the cyclist was turning out of an industrial premises onto the A6 when he was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Transit Luton van which was travelling towards Lancaster.

A black or dark coloured family saloon also stopped at the scene and the driver of that car spoke to the driver of the Ford Transit, but the saloon driver left to scene before the police arrived.

The cyclist, who was in his 20s and living in Blackpool, was pronounced dead at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Sergeant Guy Young, who is leading the investigation, said: "I am really keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the blue Ford Transit in the minutes before the collision as it travelled along the A6.

"I would also urge the driver of the dark coloured saloon which stopped at the scene to get in touch with the police as we believe they may have seen what happened."

Anyone with any information should contact police on 01524 63333 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log number 76nq/040308.
