An MP is calling on more youngsters to play the centuries-old game of chess.
Lancaster and Wyre MP, Ben Wallace, said a new scheme, launched by the English Chess Federation, is offering ten sets and boards to every school in England.
Mr Wallace now wants all schools to take advantage of ECF's offer of freebies and has written to every headmaster within his constituency asking them to do so.
Mr Wallace said: "Chess is a great little game which asks for patients within players and also challenges them mentally - it is marvellous way to build up maturity within youngsters.
"This offer by the English Chess Federation is an absolutely wonderful opportunity for local schools to get their hands on some free chess sets for their pupils."
