KARL Brown has hailed Lancashire as a ‘great’ Twenty20 side on home turf at Emirates Old Trafford as the Lightning look to make it two wins from two against Durham.

Last year’s NatWest Blast finalists got this summer’s campaign off to a winning start last Friday when they beat Leicestershire in a rain-affected thriller by chasing 140 in 15 overs.

Lancashire will be tested by a Durham side tonight who also won their North Division opener against Northamptonshire last week.

“Durham are a good side, and they are looking for their second win,” said batsman Brown.

“They will be looking to qualify and get a home quarter-final, as every team does.

“But we’re a great team at Old Trafford, and we’ve always been difficult to beat there. Last year we got on a roll and carried it right through the tournament, and hopefully that momentum started again last Friday.

“That was a great win for us (against Leicestershire). Crofty played out of his skin.

“That’s why we got so far last year. Somebody stepped up and had a match-winning performance on numerous occasions, and it was Crofty’s turn last week. Hopefully somebody else will do the same again.

“We tend to have a few more close ones than we’d like, but as long as we keep winning them it’s fine.

“It gives you a lot of confidence when you know you can get over the line in close games like that.”

Lancashire captain Tom Smith is heading towards full fitness following a month on the sidelines with a back injury, but this match comes too soon.

A last-minute call will be made on Australian all-rounder James Faulkner’s availability.
