AFTER Alviro Petersen and Ashwell Prince had broken numerous batting records and also Glamorgan hearts, the Lancashire bowlers, led by 41year-old Glen Chapple made good use of scoreboard pressure to make inroads into Glamorgan’s top order.

At the close the Red Rose county had played themselves into a winning position after the opening two days.

Lancashire supporters might have preferred to have seen two batsmen from Accrington and Rawtenstall, rather than two Kolpak signings create new records, but they would have enjoyed and savoured the occasion.

Both batsmen achieved career best scores, and among the most notable records they created were the highest partnership in for any wicket in Lancashire’s history, the second highest in the County Championship, and the first time for two batsmen to score double centuries in the same innings.

Petersen scored 286 and was only 23 runs away from equalling Steve James’ highest score on the Rhos on Sea ground before he struck David Lloyd’s medium pace to long off.

Earlier Prince, who is unlikely to return next year, had struck 35 boundaries and seven sixes in his 261 before he was out.

The carnage continued as Steven Croft blasted an unbeaten 57 from 51 balls, before calling a halt on 698-5.

Glamorgan lost Jacques Rudolph to Chapple before yet another South African - Colin Ingram - was also undone by Chapple who soon reduced Glamorgan to 60-3, when he bowled Chris Cooke.

Will Bragg soon departed and although Mark Wallace and Lloyd shared a useful 64 run partnership both fell to spin as Glamorgan closed on 165- 6, a massive deficit of 533.
