WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings will defend his title at the O2 Arena on July 14.

The Chorley champ, who wrestled the title from Takaloo at the Millennium Stadium last month, is expected to face Ross Minter, son of former middleweight champion Alan, on the undercard of the Michael Sprott v Matt Skelton re-match.

But Jennings is just pleased to be fighting again so soon after winning the world title.

He said: "I'm made up to get a defence so soon. I didn't think I'd be back in this quickly but I'm really grateful to Frank Warren for keeping me busy.

"Minter is a good name for me because of his dad so, if it comes off, it'll be another good fight. I shouldn't have a problem selling tickets.

"He's a pressure fighter. He's always coming forward and that suits me down to the ground.

"I prepare fighters to come at me because that suits my style and I won't have to go looking for him.

"I showed against Takaloo that I'm a good boxer and I'll be able to show that against someone like Minter."

On the Takaloo fight, Jennings admitted he was delighted with the way he swept to glory.

He added: "It was just about sticking to my gameplan and it worked perfectly.

"I was just pleased to get a title back after losing my British title to Young Muttley.

"I was totally devastated after that fight but it was just one of those days."

After beating Jennings on a controversial points decision, Muttley was beaten by the highly-rated Kevin Anderson.

And it is the 24-year-old Scotsman, who is due to face former WBU title holder Eamonn Magee, that Jennings has in his sights.

He added: "I would like to face Anderson to rectify the defeat against Muttley.

"But boxing is a funny game and I'll just have to wait and see who turns up in the ring.

"But, whoever I face, I'll be ready. I'm back in the gym and I'm hungrier than ever."
