BLACKBURN Rovers boss Paul Lambert declared it a ‘good return’ after his side made it four points from a possible six at the start of his reign.

Rovers followed up their 2-1 derby victory at Preston North End by drawing 2-2 at home to in-form Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

They looked set to make it back-to-back victories for the first time this season after first goals of the campaign for centre-midfielders Hope Akpan and Corry Evans gave them a half-time lead they held until the 84th minute.

But just went it appeared Lambert was going to celebrate success on his Ewood Park bow, half-time substitute Lucas Joao popped up to earn the Owls a point which means they have now lost just one of their last 15 matches.

Lambert, who saw top-scorer Jordan Rhodes have an injury-time chance saved, said: “Ideally I’d have loved to have had the three points but it’s also a game we could have lost.

“The lads might have done better in different situations but we got two goals from two different midfielders, which takes some of the pressure off Jordan, and overall, four points out of six since we’ve been here is a good return.”

Yesterday Lambert started his third full week as Rovers manager and, while he insists it will take time for the players to operate exactly how he wants them to, he has been impressed by the way they have taken on his demands to play a high-intensity style.

“It’s difficult to come into a football club when you’ve not had a pre-season but the lads have taken it on board,” said Lambert, speaking after the Wednesday draw.

“Everything won’t be perfect but I think the fans, who were brilliant today, they really were, could see that effort and desire.

“And if they see that they’re going to come back and get right behind you.

“We have to be better with the ball but that that will come if we keep working hard in training.”
