The American-based consortium led by Dan Williams has reached an advanced stage in its bid to buy Blackburn Rovers.

Talks between Williams and Rovers are still ongoing, and the consortium is hoping to be in a position in the next few weeks to table a bid for the club.

A national newspaper report claimed a £45million bid had already been made, and was being considered by the Jack Walker Trustees in Jersey.

But the Telegraph understands that NO offer has been made yet.

It was also suggested that Williams would be seeking to become chairman if the consortium takes over the club.

But the Telegraph believes that is also wide of the mark.

We understand Williams has no interest in the position, and would want to keep the present board more or less in place.

Rovers fans will have to sit tight as the transfer window deadline looms, but it is unlikely that anything concrete will be decided in the next week or so.

Meanwhile, Rovers have been hit with a £100,000 FA fine for their poor disciplinary record.

Mark Hughes' team racked up seven red cards and 111 yellows last season.

The FA will impose a further £50,000 rap if their behaviour does not improve this season.
