THERE'S only one place to be this Bank Holiday weekend for any classic motorsport enthusiast - Oulton Park's Gold Cup meeting.

A showcase for some of Britain's best historic racing, the Gold Cup features competition from classic saloons and sports cars dating back as far as the 1950s, along with a line-up of outrageous F5000 and Grand Prix cars from the 1970s.

Complete with wide slicks and big rear wings, these classic single seaters will be complemented by 1960s Sports and GTs racers such as the iconic E Type Jaguar, AC Cobra, Shelby Mustang, Ford GT40 and many more, all of which will be rolling back the years and racing flat-out for top honours.

There will also be a special demonstration performed during the lunch break on Bank Holiday Monday, when racing legend Derek Bell will take to the circuit in the spectacular Bentley Speed 8 that took overall victory in the 24 hour Le Mans race in 2003.

It's not just circuit racing that takes place at the event though as Group B rally cars - some of the fastest machines ever to compete in the World Rally Championship - will be spitting flames as these turbo-charged monsters show what they can do on Oulton Park's purpose-built Rally Stage.

Group B introduced four-wheel drive to the sport with turbo-charged engines that were almost twice as powerful as today's World Rally championship contenders and the formula was ultimately banned from competition for being too fast.

Racing takes place on Sunday August 26 and Bank Holiday Monday, August 27. For further information visit www.oultonpark.co.uk
