BURNLEY head to the capital to take on Roy Hodgson’s Watford in another big fixture in the Premier League relegation battle.

The Clarets enter the game in high spirits after climbing out of the bottom three thanks to wins against Southampton and Wolves.

Team news

Burnley will make a late call over Maxwel Cornet after the Ivory Coast international missed last weekend’s win against Southampton due to a knee problem.

Jay Rodriguez should be fit despite a calf issue, while Erik Pieters is making good progress as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

The Clarets are hopeful Ben Mee will return before the end of the season, while Ashley Westwood and Johann Berg Gudmundsson remain sidelined.

Opposition lowdown

The Hornets have won just one of their last nine league matches and suffered a convincing 5-1 defeat at Manchester City in their last outing.

Hodgson’s men are currently 19th in the table – nine points from safety with five matches still to play before the end of the season.

Burnley have faced Watford 44 times in their history, with a record of 20 wins, 11 draws and 13 defeats.

The Clarets recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory when the sides last met at Vicarage Road back in November 2019 thanks to goals from Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and James Tarkowski.

Last meeting

The points were shared when the sides faced off earlier in the season following a goalless draw at Turf Moor.

Maxwel Cornet went closest for the Clarets, while Nick Pope made a couple of smart stops to deny Josh King and Joao Pedro at the other end.

Wout Weghorst made his debut after joining from Wolfsburg on deadline day, while it was also Hodgson’s first game in charge of the Hornets.
