Blackburn Hawks pulled off the result of the season, drawing 3-3 away to Whitley Warriors.

Hawks became the first team to take points off the runaway league leaders, who had won all eight of their previous matches in the English National Ice-Hockey League (North 1).

After twice taking the lead, Hawks needed a late leveller to earn a well-deserved draw.

General manager Gary Rogers said: “It was a fantastic result. Whitley Bay is the most difficult place in the league to go and get a result.

“But we’ve got a coach, an assistant coach and a team who don’t look too much at history and are only interested in the future.”

Rick Hughes and Ollie Lomax scored for the Hawks, and Paul Rigby grabbed a late goal for the leveller.
