HASLINGDEN and District Fly Fishing Club have put themselves on the map afer an impressive performance in an international competition.
Haslingden, considered a ‘small catch’ compared to other bigger clubs, took part in the Anglian Water Airflo 2010 International Final which attracted Europe’s best anglers.
The club fishes, according to ancient methods, on the United Utilities Ogden Reservoir on the Grane Road, Haslingden and has just 200 members.
The competition, held at Rutland Water, included 25 teams and was won by a Scottish team with the runners-up from Belgium.
While the Haslingden team, who are sponsored by Gemini Dispersions of Waterfoot, finished in 23rd place, Mick Cassidy of Church won the prize for the biggest rainbow trout of the competition.
