Goal shy Ramsbottom United saw their Vodkat League Premier Division championship hopes dented badly as they failed to score for the second week running and were held to a 0-0 Riverside draw by local rivals Bacup Borough.
But Bacup were left to count the cost of their defensive show and hard earned point as skipper Davey Luker suffered a badly broken nose in a clash with Gary Stopforth.
There were chances at both ends but the three points should have been secured by Rammy in the final moments when a superb run and cross from Phil Dean set up the on-rushing Mickey Saunders who somehow managed to screw the ball wide with the goal at his mercy.
Mark Drew hit the Bacup post in the first half, while Tommy Turner went close top breaking the deadlock for Brent Peters’ men.
