Blackburn Rovers Ladies maintained their excellent record in the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup, claiming the trophy for the seventh time in the last eight seasons with a thumping 6-2 final victory over Preston.
Rovers didn’t have it all their own way in the showdown at county FA headquarters in Leyland, and were put under pressure in the first period.
Danielle Sheen gave the Premier League National Division side an early lead, but North End’s Laura Walker turned the tie around with two goals as Preston led 2-1 at half-time.
But Adam Lakeland’s Rovers side turned the tide back in their favour in the second half, with Sheen again on the mark to level the scores.
An own goal put them into lead, followed by goals from Amanda Goodwin, Lizzie Ince and Sophie Lynch to wrap up the tie and silverware.
