MARTIN Olsson believes Blackburn Rovers can still transform their relegation fears into a top ten push after insisting they have the weapons to fire them back up the Premier League.

Rovers’ Swedish international admits the pressure is on after a six-match winless run leaves them just one point clear of safety – but is adamant there is still time to rescue their top-half aspirations.

Fellow Premier League strugglers Blackpool are Saturday’s Ewood Park visitors with both sides struggling for form but, just two points off where they were at this stage last campaign, Olsson says there is still time to rescue their campaign.

Rovers took 16 points from their last nine games last time round, losing just once, and Olsson insists the belief still exists to send them on a similar run.

He said: “We have had a bit of pressure in the last few games but we want to get as high up in the table as we possibly can. We still believe we can finish in the same sort of position as we did last season.

“Now we have to look at the reality. That reality is we can be fighting against relegation until the end of the season or we can also go much higher up the table.

"It is just important we focus and take it one game at a time.

“As soon as we can get those three points, I think we will relax and play some better football. There is always going to be pressure when things are so tight in the table.

“If you lose a game you are down there but if you win you are going to be up there.

"Blackpool at home is the most important game now because it is the next game.

"It is in front of the fans and if we do well it will help us relax a little bit.

“The league is so very tight that we can see still see 10th. Everything can change very quickly at the moment.”

Rovers have conceded 11 goals in their last four games and have picked up just one point from their last six games, since their home victory over West Brom at the end of January.

Olsson though insists the side’s attacking threat should give fans confidence and points to past home displays against Liverpool and Spurs as evidence of what they are capable of.

“We have to take the positives and those are attacking wise,” he said.

“We are creating a lot of chances and if we play well at home and away, there are still nine games to go.

“We can still go high up in the table. We should have got a point but we know we can scare teams with our pace.

“We will work hard as a team, express ourselves and hopefully we can get three points.

"The Premier League is the hardest league in the world, that is what most people say.

“No team is easy, every team has quality players and we are going to lose some games.

"We have shown we can play some good football against teams like Spurs and Liverpool and hopefully we can perform like that against Blackpool.”
