ACCRINGTON Stanley host Burton tonight knowing they need to quickly bounce back from a potentially damaging loss at Gillingham, but John Coleman has insisted that Saturday’s result has far from ended their promotion hopes.

Coleman had last week described the trip to Priestfield as ‘a cup final’, so eager was he to secure victory in Kent and close the gap further on a Gills side who were occupying the final play-off spot at the time.

A 3-1 loss was undoubtedly a setback, leaving Stanley 13th in League Two and nine points outside the top seven.

But the Reds play one of their games in hand tonight and will hope to make progress towards the play-off places with victory over a Burton side who are third bottom, albeit having played as many as five or six matches less than the teams around them in the table.

And Coleman has urged his Stanley team to retain the belief that had seen them claim 13 points from their previous five games.

“We know we’re a good side and I’m telling you now I still think we’ve got a massive, massive chance of making the play-offs,” he said.

“We’ll take Saturday’s defeat on the chin, we won’t complain about it and we will be determined to bounce back against Burton.”

Tonight’s game will be the first meeting between Stanley and Burton this season, with the match originally postponed in December and the reverse fixture at the Pirelli Stadium due to take place on the final day of the campaign on May 7.

The Reds have reduced prices to £5 for tonight’s fixture.
