Nichol Forster scored a late winner as Rovers Ladies returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Rotherham.

In wet and windy conditions, Rovers dominated from the off and were unlucky not to take an early lead, with Danielle Sheen twice unable to find the right finish.

On the half-hour mark, Rovers made the breakthrough. Some slick passing led to Keeleigh Savage flashed a cross in from out wide and Hannah Forster arrived late, before taking a touch and firing past the keeper.

As the second half got underway, the weather seemed to be getting worse and the pitch was starting to cut up, which suited Rotherham’s direct style of play.

After a scrappy spell, the visitors equalised with an hour of the game gone.

Rovers didn’t let their heads drop and continued to press. They changed shape for the closing stages and it appeared to have the desired effect, as on 80 minutes, the ball was worked down the right and struck at goal, the Rotherham keeper pushed it into the path of Nichol Forster, who gladly placed it into the back of the net.

Manager Scott Rogers said: “It’s great to get back to winning ways. The girls really worked hard and we are determined to put a run of good results together.”

ROVERS: Elliott, Cox (Hart 55), Oates, Twohig, Foxley, Ince, H. Forster, Turner, Savage (Wood 70), Penny (N. Forster 75), Sheen.
