RIBCHESTER racer Adam Morgan is preparing for the biggest two races of his life as he bids to fulfil a long-held dream by securing a £300,000 drive in the British Touring Car Championship this weekend.

The 22-year-old, competing for Ciceley Racing, is currently second in the Ginetta GT SuperCup standings going into the final weekend of the season at Silverstone and the winner of the series will get a fully-funding drive in the prestigious touring car championship next year.

The current leader of the points standing is the experienced Carl Breeze – a man who once succeeded 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen to win the British Formula Renault series.

But Morgan, whose father Russell runs Ciceley Racing after once teaming up with former Blackburn Rovers owner Jack Walker’s son Howard to race in the Renault Spider Champ-ionship, believes he can claim the title and knows how big an opportunity is in front of him this weekend.

“It would be massive for me,” said the former Stonyhurst College student.

“I’ve always been interested in the touring cars, I’ve always watched it and enjoyed the close contact, and for the past 10 years it’s all I’ve been thinking about really.

“The drive would probably be worth about £300,000. I’m eight points behind Carl Breeze but there are two races left, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, and it’s 35 points for a win.

“I think I can do it but Carl has been driving for 15 years, so it won’t be easy.

“This is the biggest weekend of my life, so I am going to go all out attack.”

Tom Sharp and Nathan Freke also have an outside chance of top spot.

Morgan admits he is already pleased to be second in only his second year in the Ginetta series, which is shown live on ITV4 with crowds of around 30,000 present at race weekends.

“We’ve had some really good results,” said Morgan. “It’s my second year in this series, I finished sixth last year, and it’s my first year in my own team.

“It’s my dad’s team, we’re competing against professional teams, and he has worked so hard to put me in this position. I will be very nervous before the races this weekend but once they start the adrenaline takes over.”
