JAKE Leary has been crowned North West Amateur Regional Novice champion to stretch is unbeaten record to a magnificent seven.
The 20-year-old from Bacup beat the taller, older and more experienced Loren Holland to take the title.
It was the toughtest test yet for the Rossendale Boxing Club fighter, especially as he had to come through a gruelling semi final against Bury boxer Ali Zahid the previous day.
Leary will now take on the North East regional champion later this month for a place in the national semi finals.
“I’m made up to win the the North West title,” said the light middleweight. “They were two experienced and tough opponents and both were great fights. I couldn’t have done it without my coaches and everyone else at the club.
“I’m now working hard for that next fight at the end of November.”
Coach Paddy Moran was delighted to see Leary extend his unbeaten run.
“Jake came out confidently and his quick combinations and nifty footwork left the other guy sometimes swinging in to mid air,” said Moran.
“Jake’s only been boxing for two years and has come a long way in a short space of time. He’s definitely one to watch.”
