THE all-conquering Mill Hill U14s team are gunning for an unprecedented ‘treble-treble’ – and will dedicate it to goalkeeper Josh Pearce who suffered a horrific broken arm following a freak accident.

The 13-year-old, who is also a member of the Blackburn Town team, shattered his arm in five places after falling off his BMX bike at a skate park in Clitheroe.

Josh had to undergo a four-hour operation to insert 14 screws, two plates and wires and pins.

He has been told he may never play in goal again, although he is also a talented outfield player.

“I was trying out a few tricks on my bike and I slipped on some mud and fell on my arm,” said Josh “It was a bit of a freak accident really”

Josh is the son of Chris Pearce, the former Burnley and Blackburn Rovers keeper who also coaches the Mill Hill team – recently named junior sports team of the year at the Lancashire Telegraph Grass Roots Heroes awards.

The team has never lost a game in normal time and has won the ELFA league and cup double for the last two years and have also been crowned Lancashire champions in that time.

“We had just got back from a family holidayJosh went out and then we got a call to say he was in hospital with a bit of a cut on his elbow,” said Pearce. “When we got there it was a bit of a shock to see how bad the injury actually was. He was in a bit of a mess.”

Mill Hill are now searching for a new keeper, especially as Josh’s fellow netter Jack Jolly broke his wrist in pre-season.

“We’re pretty desperate,” said club secretary Tony Regan. “Hopefully we’ll find a new keeper and we can win the treble again for Josh.”
