THE smiles on the faces of young judo enthusiasts said it all as the cream of the crop put on a masterclass at Audley Sports Centre.

Craig Fallon – Britain’s last world champion – five-time World silver medallist Karina Bryant and Blackburn’s own Olympic hopeful Nathan Burns spent the day coaching youngsters from Shadsworth, Beach and Audley judo clubs.

All three are members of the Great Britain team and train together at Camberley Judo Club in London.

“It’s not often you get so many people from the top of their sport at one venue,” said Joe Burns, head coach and Nathan’s father. “The kids really enjoyed it and so did Nathan, Craig and Karina.”

The day was split in two with the three holding coaching sessions for youngsters in the morning and a masterclass for older students in the afternoon.

The event was held in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council which was held to help raise the profile of judo.

It demonstrated what can be achieved with dedication, hard work and commitment.

But this event showed that the sport can also be a bit of fun.

“I can’t remember seeing so many kids with smiles on their faces,” added Joe. “Even when the were hanging upside down!”
