LANGHO teenager Elizabeth Stebbings intends to do herself justice in next week’s Abu Dhabi Junior Golf Championships and avenge last year’s disappointment in the Middle East.

The 17-year-old Wilpshire Golf Club member is among nine girls from across Great Britain heading to the United Arab Emirates for the 54-hole event, regarded as the junior ‘major’, which begins on Tuesday.

It is her second successive appearance at the championships, but last year she finished 24 shots behind eventual winner Hayley Davis.

“I didn’t play my best last time,” admits Stebbings, a student at Westholme High sixth form.

“But I’m a bit older and a bit more mature now. Hopefully, I can go out there and play much better.

“I’ve played well this year and I’m excited about going to Abu Dhabi.”

Stebbings, a Lancashire county player, has enjoyed a successful 2010 campaign.

She finished joint seventh in the English Girls Championships at Ellesborough in Buckinghamshire.

A second-place finish at the Lancashire Ladies Championships at Ormskirk was another notable achievement for Stebbings.
