ACCRINGTON driver Hazel Johnson picked up eight awards during a weekend of presentation ceremonies for local motor sport.

The 19-year-old enjoyed success during 2011 as she starts to make her name in the autosolo and stage rally disciplines, and collected two honours at Friday’s SD34 Motor Sport Group awards night before receiving six more at the Association of North Western Car Club’s annual presentation evening a day later.

The SD34 club are based in East Lancashire and Johnson picked up awards at their ceremony at Blackburn Northern Sports Club after winning her class in the Off The Road Championship as well as the Stage Rally Championship.

The Accrington Motor Sport Club member then travelled to Wilmslow on Saturday to receive a number of regional awards after winning her class in the Production Car Autotest as well as claiming three autosolo honours and two more in the Rally Championship.

At the SD34 event, Hazel’s father Steve collected the overall award in the Off The Road Championship.

Clitheroe and District Motor Club’s Simon Boardman was victorious in the Road Rally Championship with the help of navigator Steve Butler, of the CSMA club.

John Ric Wood was the winner of the Stage Rally Championship together with co-driver Bradley Johnson, representing Clitheroe.

Fellow Clitheroe member Steve Lewis was first in the Individual Championship, while Ken Wilkinson claimed first prize in the Marshals Championship. The SD34 Inter-Club League was won by Clitheroe.

At the ANWCC awards night, Blackburn’s Simon Robinson , 15, collected his award as the winner of the first ever MSA Regional Association Junior Production Car Championship.

Fellow Blackburn driver Daniel Barker, 17, won class A ahead of Whittle-le-Woods’ Jack Mather, 16.
