Chorley all-rounder Tom Smith will play for Liverpool & District Cricket Competition side Formby when he is not required by Lancashire this season.
Smith opened Formby's bowling attack in their opening league match last week.
He has been given the go-ahead to play for the Merseyside club by Lancashire assistant coach Gary Yates.
Smith has been left out of the Lancashire squad for their first two matches of the County Championship season and he made just six firts team appearances last season.
But he is expected to have more first team chances this term with Andrew Flintoff and James Anderson likely to get England call-ups.
Smith is currently playing for Lancashire's second team against Worcestershire, starting today.
